Exploratory Wheel (Quarterly)
Art: This course introduces a variety of media techniques: drawing, painting, lettering, two and three dimensional design; and a number of craft experiences. As students become acquainted with the elements and principles of art, they gain basic understanding of art concepts pertinent to our present-day society as well as the past.
Computer Applications: Each student will develop beginning and intermediate computer skills. The class explores a variety of computer applications and investigates the power of computers in daily life. Students will create and manipulate images, explore elements of basic graphic design, develop and reinforce basic keyboarding skills and word processing and create spreadsheets. Research skills and the use of the Internet will be taught. Students will present research in a variety of formats.
Drama: In the beginning of this course, students are taught the history of theatre, stage areas, and basic theatre terminology. They learn positioning, as well as the significance of movement, voice, and facial expression on stage. Basic elements of theatre are presented through a variety of theatre are presented through a variety theatre activities including, but not limited to, monologues, scene study, improvisation, plays, musicals, script writing, and readers theatre.
Spanish: This class provides students the opportunity to study Spanish on an introductory level. The course covers basic conversational skills, vocabulary building history, customs and geography of the countries. It does not cover any of the language in depth as the course is designed to be a first exposure to Spanish. This course may be included as one rotation in the Sixth Grade Wheel Elective.
Sixth Grade Music Electives (Year Long)
Band 6 This class is for 6th grade students with or without experience who would like to play a wind or brass instrument. Most students will have begun their study in elementary school. Students will perform traditional and popular music, study music theory and history in a fun structured environment.
Orchestra 6 This class is for 6th grade students with or without experience who would like to play a string instrument. Most students in this class will have begun their study in elementary school. Students will perform traditional and popular music theory and history in a fun structure environment.
